A dear friend of ours introduced us to Quiggly's Clayhouse, a fired arts studio in Richardson, TX. It's not quite Hogwarts, but they offer a kids art class called Art4Kids during the day for homeschoolers (and one later in the day after school). I cannot say enough about Mr. Kirby, Mrs. Kristi, and Mrs. Tami! We adore these classes. They are offered as a semester or you can show up unannounced like we did and pay for one class at a time. (All photos from my beloved LG enV Touch.)
With the Arts getting less and less face time in schools in general, I find this money well spent for my two little art lovers. The first class we attended was at the wheel. Noah seems to have a real knack for working the clay. They threw three pots that day and then got to paint one of them with tinted slip.
That clay on her forehead. Oh be still my heart.
He gets SO absorbed in his work. Don't you just wanna squeeze him?
Mr. Kirby and Mrs. Tami do an amazing job of incorporating technique and a little art history into the classes as the kids work. And the personal attention is invaluable! Last week, they painted on canvas.
They discussed perspective, horizon line and how to plan your painting before you start. Keira wanted her island to reach up and touch the sun. Don't those little trees just make your heart melt?
And Noah turned his boat into a Viking ship armed for battle. In case you aren't aware, everything is some sort of battle with Noah. With swords. And a shield. And Viking horns.
There are 3 classes left before the end of this semester, and they are all scheduled to be at the wheel. If you are in the area, I highly recommend that you stop by and give it a try.
Your kids won't learn the fine art of Wizardry,
but I think this is the next best thing!
